yolo

top: vintage
shorts: american apparel
shoes: old navy
pin: vintage
sour expression: the ordeal i'd just went through trying to curl my hair with a flat iron

I mentioned on twitter a while ago that I was gonna get some hotpants for yolo reasons and well, here they are. I feel like when I'm all old and wrinkly I'll be glad I wore ridiculous inappropriate things while I was still young and hot. Or maybe I'll still wear hotpants when I'm 80. Who knows what the future will bring!

Bessie

dress: thrifted handmade
necklace: thrifted
shoes: thrifted naturalizer
sunglasses: love @ clearly contacts

I've been trying to take sneaky outfit pics here for months but this is the first time I've felt satisfied enough with the results to post them. I was busted by some teenage girls but they went on to take photos of themselves standing over a vent that made their skirts blow up... so I don't feel too mortified about them seeing me. That said I still wish I had a yard or a car to take secluded photos without always looking over my shoulder... or I could learn to not give a frig and just be the weirdo taking photos of herself in public.

I've been slowly collecting cool and breezy vintage cotton dresses like this one. This one has a cute custom tag on it, the ones you could order to put on your handmade pieces. A lady named Bessie made this one! Thanks Bessie.

instagram

I've let myself get addicted to Instagram. These are some of my favourites from the past little while.

You can follow me on Instagram, my username is crumbumb. I feel the need to explain this username: I think CRUMB BUM, as an insult, is wonderful. Like in the Simpsons when Lisa says "He's changed, and he doesn't wanna hang out with a bunch of crumb bums!" Anyway. I thought CRUM BUMB would be a good way to adapt that insult if I were ever to get a set of sweet knuckle tats. That's all.

polly

dress: thrifted
belt: thrifted
loafers: old navy

sometimes I feel like polyester gets a bad rap. Sure it can get a lil' sweaty but it's durability really speaks to me as a careless, lazy person who doesn't take care of her things. and I like that I can have this polyester dress from the 70s and it's still as bright as the day it was made. that's kinda sweet and poetic, right?

boy blue

denim dress: thrifted
black moon pin: modaccesories
shoes: winners

I got this dress on Saturday when I worked the Crapaud thrift store for a couple hours. I love the fit but the jury is still out on that weird tie-up front. I dunno whether to leave it or cover it up. Or maybe I could highlight it even further with some calico trim and lace, like a vintage Gunne Sax prairie dress.

miss calvet

thrifted top and skirt, old navy shoes

I wear this skirt so much, I actually had a dream nightmare that I washed it and all the pleats fell out. Pretty soon it'll be too hot to wear it so I'm spending lots of quality time with it until that time comes.

When I found this top I was initially drawn to the colour and pattern. It's kinda like something Megan Draper would wear to the office. The matching sash sealed the deal though. I soooo want to wear it like headband but it looks a bit ridiculous. It's weird how certain looks from the past hold up but others (like these sort of headscarves) look costumey and dated.

eye on springfield

all thrifted (this is getting boring!) except for the shoes, from winners. oh and the ring from ebay, to replace a ring i thrifted and lost

This is the number one funniest shirt I own. What is even happening with this print?? I'm not a fan of 80s fashion at all (so many shoulderpads and peplums ew go away) but I'm very fond of this piece. It reminds me of a Tex Mex restaurant or a Kindergarten mural or the opening title to a news broadcast infotainment segment...

living on the edge

ONCE AGAIN everything I am wearing is thrifted

I am pretty sure this dress is a HOUSE DRESS, like, something you're not supposed to wear in public. But I am a big fan of livin' on the edge so I wore this to work today.

It's been a really beautiful week, weather-wise, but it's starting to get a little hot and humid and I'm suddenly reminded that I HATE SUMMER! I hate bugs! And getting all sweaty even when I'm just sitting around doing nothing. The funny (sad?) thing is that it doesn't even get very hot here! It MIGHT get to 30 degrees Celcius some days, but I'm still a huge baby about it. I plan on lots of popsicle therapy this summer.

swoopin in

once again, everything is thrifted

Yay, the sun is back! Time for floaty hippie tops and sandals.

tie it up

everything thrifted except for old navy rockstar jeggings

I call this look "fancy grandpa who wears lipstick"

Ties are weird. You don't see women wear them very often at all, even in ~meanswear inspired~ outfits. I'm lovin' this one, and I want MORE TIES. Why don't more women wear them? They look cute as hell! Did Avril Lavigne taint them for everyone? Would YOUUUU wear a tie? I just have so many questions.

dreary days

all thrifted everything

It's been cold, windy, wet, and autumn-like the past few days and I've been dressing accordingly. I got this dress last fall at Froggies (RIP) and remember feeling really self-concious about the length of it. Weird, since this is the hemline I prefer lately. Now I'm feeling a little self-concious about the colour. It's so bright and garish and I think it keeps me from wearing it... I have a box of brown RIT dye ready for it but I'm too chicken to actually dye it. Maybe I'll wear it a couple more times in warmer weather and decide from there.

yard sailing

I went to the Eastern Kings Giant Yard sale yesterday, which isn't so much one big yard sale as it is a bunch of little yard sales spread out through the countryside. I spent the day driving around with my mom and sister, we hit most of the sites. I bought everything.

I needed something to corral the pile of shoes that are always at my door. This looks to be an old speaker, but it's hollowed out now. It needs a little TLC but it does the trick for now.

I've never felt the urge to wear mens ties but I love the embroidery on this. I think I'll wear it with a white shirt and high-waisted skirt.

Two soft comfy 80s tops.

This atomic scale needs some cleaning up as well but it's in great shape otherwise. It's still accurate! It's hard to photograph but there are little gold sparkles all over it.

Magazines, ranging from 1948 to 1966. I can't get over that Valentine's Day cover. Chatelaine is a Canadian womens magazine that's still going on strong today. I've never heard of Look but the theme of this issue intrigued me: The American Woman, in 1966. I'm looking forward to the articles in that.

This little brown jug will probably serve as a cookie jar for me

A clock in need of a battery

Someone was selling off their cat collection. My favourite is the teak guy up front.

Normally these baskets are for holding fruit in the kitchen, but I'm short on bathroom storage.

I need more chairs like I need a hole in the head but I love the pattern on this one. So comfy too!

I don't think I've ever had such a great yard sale haul, and I didn't spend more than five dollars on any single item!
