First of all, THANK YOU for all the girl band suggestions on my last post! I've been checking them out all weekend and discovering some new favourites.

I had a pretty good thrifting day yesterday so I thought I'd put all my finds in a post.

First of all I went to something called the "World's Largest Garage Sale" which was a HORRIBLE name for this thing, because it wasn't in a garage and it wasn't especially big either? It was more like a flea market, so there were a lot of overpriced collectible sort of things. I only bought a couple things but it was fun to just walk around and gawk at all the stuff there, you know?



This is some sort of planter/keyrack hybrid.



Everyone from my hometown drinks Schnooner for some reason so I felt a little drawn to this flattened out old can.


When that was all said and done I decided to take a trip to the grocery store to gather some ingredients for Budget Bytes Root Beer Pulled Pork (It was delicious, btw). I "popped in" to a thrift store on the way and ended up finding a bunch of stuff that I had to carry around with me while I ran my errands. Including this 60s trenchcoat...


I look sweaty and pissed because I WAS. Just trying this on made me way too warm. I've been keeping an eye out for a trenchcoat but this is the first time I've found something that I think is my style. I love the big full "skirt" on this one!


There was a BOGO deal on, btw, so I got the coat, these two tops and the pair of shoes, for 6 dollars all together.


I always love a pair of t-straps. I was considering getting some Golden Ponies in this style.


I come across this tag a lot in my travels, usually on really brightly-coloured, fun tops from the 70s-80s. I looked up the town on the tag (Lanark) and learned that it's really suffered economically since the "Kitten Mill" closed down in the 90s, due to cheap exported fabric from Asia. Sad, eh? Everything I own by this brand is such great quality, with a lot of attention to details.

I have all these FEELINGS lately about blogging and feminism as it relates to fashion and wearing vintage/feminine clothing but I can't properly collect my thoughts into a post!! eugh. stay tuned, I guess?

in the meantime, if you have an recommendations for cool girl bands LEMME HEAR 'EM. I'm picking up guitar again in the hopes of making some scrappy music and I want some inspiration.

this was my outfit for a 90s party yesterday. i... don't know what else to say about this.

oh, i picked some daisies on the way to the party and accessorized with them as well. daisies are 90s, right? i dunno guys. i'm not old enough to properly remember this decade.

This is the last day of my vacation... It will be hard to get up for work again tomorrow morning but I couldn't have had a nicer week off! On Friday my Mom and I took the ferry to Nova Scotia to see my Opa (Dutch for "grandfather"). We had a nice little visit in Pictou County. I stopped at a couple thrift stores in New Glasgow as well, which is where I found this dress for $2.88. Nova Scotia thrift stores are so cheap, I tell ya... This little frock is handmade and so nice and cool for the hot sunny weather we keep having. And I mean KEEP having! I can't remember the last summer where we've had so many nice days! I'm actually hoping we have a few big wet rainy days soon, for the sake of everyone's farms and gardens.




I took my camera with me to NS. It's so embarrassing that I only use this big honking DSLR to take blog photos.

I've had this bag for a few years but this is the first time I've used it as something other than decoration. It opens like a clamshell, which makes it kinda unwieldy and annoying to use. Pretty though, eh?




This blouse came from a whirlwind visit to Repeats' costume room (and costume back room) a few days ago. THRIFTING TIP: if a thrift store has a costume section, that is where all the vintage hides. Even stuff that isn't particularly costumey, like this blouse! And if you're local, you really need to go to Repeats. The costume room is STUFFED, and the back room is packed with old stuff as well.



Locals may recognize this area as Dead Man's Pond in Victoria Park. As the name might suggest, there are some creepy stories about this spot, and rumours that the pond is bottomless (spoiler alert: it's not). All urban legends aside, it makes for a pretty sweet place to take outfit pictures. Nice lighting, lots of rocks to act as tripods, and no one ever walks by and sees me... probably because they've been freaked out by all the ghost stories...

So it tuns out that I picked the best week to go on vacation. Everyday has been sunny and warm, but not too hot! This morning I wandered around for a long time trying to scout out secluded places to take outfit posts. I'm lucky to have all this green space minutes away from my house!





Years of clomping around in cheap shoes have left my feet in pretty bad shape, so I decided to treat them to a nice comfy pair of Clarks. These are the Wellfleet style, I found them at Corney's on Queen Street. They go with everything I wear and are SO nice to walk in, even with that platform! I managed to snag them for half-off too.



Towards the end of my little ramble today I stopped in at Timeworn Treasures for this first time. This is a sweet little antique shop at the bottom of Richmond Street in the old Irwin Printing building. There are lots of antique shops in PEI but I don't think any of them are styled and curated like this one! It's a very sweet and feminine space that feels like a breathe of fresh air amongst all the dark and overcrowded antique shops I'm used to (though those have their charm too, don't get me wrong!) I walked out with this 60s enamel pin and put it on straight away.

how to keep a headscarf on your head

Every summer I have tried to tie my hair up in a cute scarf and every time I tried I FAILED. My head isn't made for them! They tend to just slip up higher and higher until they fall off completely. No matter how tight I tie them, or how many bobby pins I use. I figured out this method of keeping them on yesterday and thought I'd share. It's VERY EASY. I'm horrible at doing hair and I can do this! You don't need to tease your hair or use any sort of hot tools or anything! you just need a brush, an elastic, and a few bobby pins.


Brush out your weird unreasonable hair that you want to cover up with a scarf.



Pull it up in a ponytail like so. My haircut is a lot shorter underneath so I have all these loose pieces I'll need to put up with bobby pins. You probably won't have this problem!


This part is probably easier to explain than it is to photograph on self-timer with dark hair. It's also the most important part... whoops. You want to kinda part the hair underneath the ponytail, gather up your ponytail, and tuck it underneath.


It makes this very neat looking bump. Isn't that pretty? This is the secret to keeping your scarf on! It keeps it from sliding up and off your head.


Pin up all the stray strands of hair.



Then it's time to put your scarf on. I like to tie them in a knot twice in the middle of my head, and then switch the ends over and tuck them under.


Yay! look at that! I did this to my hair last night and except for having to fix the tucked-in ends a couple times, it stayed in place perfectly!
