I love fall as much as the next guy but there is NO WAY I can walk around in heavy sweaters and boots and tights these days. I have seen people wearing stuff like that lately, when it's just 20 Celcius with a bit of a breeze! I think it's possible to dress like you're excited for fall without immediately throwing on a ton of layers. Loafers and cardigans and beaten-up brown leather is fall-like, but the 3/4 length sleeves and bare legs keep me from dying in the heat.

After the Olympics I couldn't get Running up that Hill out of my head, so I finally snatched up this tote I've had my eyes on for years. It's odd how carrying Kate Bush lyrics around with me all day immediately makes me feel refined and poetic, things I am... not.

hair

I've been trying out the Gibson tuck with my short hair lately and I'm pleased with the results. Usually when I attempt updos they turn out looking like a total rats nest, even the ones that are supposed to look messy.

I'm coming up on my first anniversary of posting outfits on this blog, which I suppose makes me a fashion blogger of almost a year. Honestly, the only regret I have is not starting one sooner. I feel like my sense of style has been pushed and pulled into place, my self-esteem is doing pretty great (taking photos of yourself all the time helps), I get a lot of photography practice, and I'm a part of a community filled with smart, wonderful women. I feel warm and fuzzy just thinking about 'em! I can understand why some bloggers go through "why am I doing this?" blogging crises, but I am gonna go on record to say that I friggin LOVE blogging.

lemon lime

t-shirt: smart set
vintage lilly pulitzer skirt: thrifted
bow belt: from a vintage dress
necklace: thrifted
sandals: clarks

I will be happy to see summer go, but I'm glad I can squeeze a few wears out of this newly-thrifted skirt before the cold weather sets in. My style in general has been drifting away from bright colours but I think I might always make an exception for sixties prints like this. I think if my summer wardrobe was exclusively vintage Lilly and Malia patterned skirts and dresses, I'd be happy.

Feelin' weird about my hair lately. When I first cut it short (a year ago!) I thought it was the best thing I'd ever done but I've been wanting my long hair again! I mostly miss sticking my hair in a bun or a sidebraid in the summer when it was misbehaving... now all I can figure out is this sad looking ponytail. Look at it! so sad so pathetic. :( Maybe I just need someone to show me how to properly style my hair.

This weekend the location of these photos will be ~transformed~ for Art in the Open. Last year's event was one of my favourite nights of the summer. I'm looking forward to seeing the result of all the contributors' hard work. I may even have photos to share here on Sunday. If I can ever get over my photography-shyness. (anyone else feel weird taking photos in public?)

strummin

shirt: thrifted ralph laren
short: thrifted
braided belt: thrifted
smoking flats: old navy

I've been playing my guitar again! I used to play a lot in high school, but when I moved to Charlottetown for college I never brought it with me. I never had time for it during school anyway. I picked it up a couple times since then I never got back into it on the same level. I fixed her up with some pretty new strings and that seems to be the ticket. Now anything I play sounds nice!

I had a yard sale with some pals yesterday and took these instagrams to entice people to come. You may remember a few months ago, when I donated huge bags of clothing to Value Village. It wasn't painful or difficult at all, I had no trouble getting rid of them. The stuff I chose to save for the yard sale has a little more sentimental value. I wasn't really concerned with making money, (as much as I appreciated it!) but seeing the clothes I loved go to new homes. As sad as I was to get rid of the leather jacket I used to wear daily, it was nice to see it go home with a woman who said her teenage daughter would be SO happy to have it. Similar with the mother of a Michael Jackson fan who snapped up my glitzy military jacket.

Of course, holding a yard sale with a couple other girls meant I was going to come home with some new things. I was good, though.

I got this vest from Caitlin, who's worked in thrift stores for the past few years and as a result has an amazing collection. I can't wait for fall so I can wear this with jeans and boots.

Also from Caitlin. I've been on the lookout for a 60s nightie a la pregnant Trudy Campbell for a while now. This isn't quite as cupcakey or pink but it works for me.

Strawberry bag from Aimee. This almost makes me wish I dressed Lolita because it would be the perfect addition to a frilly Sweet Lolita outfit.

headless day

vintage 60s skirt: firegypsy vintage
t-shirt: smart set
necklace: thrifted

This WOULD have been a full-length view of my outfit but I actually ran out of bedroom. My camera was backed up against the wall. It's what I get for living in a narrow boxcar of an apartment.

I just got this skirt in the mail yesterday and I want to live in it now.the pink is much, much brighter IRL. It's like a highlighter!

This dreamy mint green dress is from FireGypsy as well. I'll need to take it to a tailor because it's a little big, and while it looks okay now it would really sing if it fit me perfectly.

melting away

floral cropped pants: thrifted
t-shirt: smart set
loafers: old navy
necklace: vintage

I can't tell if this print is cool 50s retro or old lady on vacation. I will wear them anyway, I guess? If you think pants like this would be too warm for a humid summer day, you would be RIGHT. I nearly melted taking these photos. But I was actually freezing in my air-conditioned office all day. I had to fetch a sweater for the afternoon. I just can't win.

I'm using a weird trick I got from this post a while back. To get a boat-neck in the front and a low back I just... wore a scoopneck t-shirt backwards. I really need to cut the tag out of this shirt if I do it again because it's embarrassing enough when someone points out that your tag is sticking out and your shirt is backwards... even more so when you have to say "I know, I did it on purpose"
